Hertz Europe Service Centre

HESC have 1,200 multilingual contact-centre staff at their site in Dublin for whom we have created a programme to teach English, French, German, Spanish and Italian. Since the programme was launched in April 2005 over 350 people have started the programme, and this number continues to grow week by week.

In addition to our existing online and CD ROM courses, we have developed specific content for them to test and teach language required for the car rental industry, which will be integrated into their programme and used in their recruitment and training procedures.

Hertz are planning to roll-out the programme across other sites in Europe. This project was carried out in collaboration with AOK Learning, our Irish agents. The Passport2Language range will be integrated into the programme as each level is launched.

Roche Pharmaceuticals

Over the past 12 months ITTC, our partners in China, have delivered over 125 blended English courses (combining CD ROM and distance tutoring) for Roche Pharmaceuticals. Each learner receives a personal copy of their course on CD ROM, and logon details for access to our online Learning Centre (which includes a pronunciation tool, a grammar reference section, and a database of 1,000s of exercises). Their teacher contacts them by telephone or email at regular intervals to conduct an assignment (usually a role-play practising the language they've learnt on the CD ROM course), then sends a grade and feedback. Many of the learners are complete beginners, so support is provided in Chinese where required.

This is an ongoing project which is planned to grow rapidly as Roche's business increases in China. The Passport2Language range will be integrated into the programme as each level is launched.

Stevenson College Edinburgh (SCE)

We have had a long and successful relationship with this Scottish college of further education, who are at the forefront of innovative language learning. For the past 5 years they have been delivering distance courses for students across Scotland for the Scottish Higher exams in Italian and Spanish.

The students study using our CD ROM courses, and receive tutoring via telephone and webconferencing. More recently SCE have been delivering our content to students via their VLE. They are very keen to start using Passport2Languages to deliver distance courses to prepare students for the OCR Certificate in Business Language Competence.
